Bridging Duality
Our mind
can only know the particular individual realities of life. To know the
universal dimensions of our existence, the most profound realities of
life, requires heart knowing and intuition. This is true knowing that
surpasses intellect and belief. It is this knowing that expands
consciousness, while intellectual knowing helps us negotiate our outer
life.
The
duality of inner knowing versus the outer experiences of life has been
seen as a conflict for the past two thousand years. In almost all
previous spiritual teachings about experiencing the universal or the
divine there was always the belief and practice of disconnecting from
the personality and the bodies in order to experience that reality which
was believed to be totally separate from the bodies. Paradoxically, it
was believed that we had to deny the self in order to experience what
was in fact the greater Self.
When it
comes to developing and expanding soul consciousness, the emphasis is
very different. Instead of separating the spiritual from the mundane,
and the inner from the outer, we need to experience these apparent
opposites together as different dimensions of the same reality. Soul is
the bridge between these apparent opposites and the place where they
unite as one. This occurs in our bodies.
The
universal exists within the particular, the spiritual within the
material world. They are inseparable. In fact it is the inherent
universal dimension that is the cause of every particular expression.
When we go beyond the surface experience of anything with heart knowing
or intuition we find its soul. This is the universal dimension found at
the heart of every reality and every experience no matter how positive
or negative it is. And when we find its soul we connect with our own
soul. The result is a meaningful experience and a revelation of purpose.
Every
experience that we have, whether it is of a universal or personal
nature, always involves our brain. Even the most mystical experiences
register in the brain. If the brain were not involved we could not
experience it because the brain is the medium of all awareness.
Soul is
experienced in parts of the brain, some of which have a direct
neurological connection to the heart. Even intuition is experienced in
more advanced areas of the brain.
By taking
care of our brain and our bodies we have a much greater potential to
experience the wholeness we all seek. And by seeking the essence, the
universal dimension of every reality, we find the soul that gives
meaning to every experience.

Exercises:
Whenever you experience something, especially situations that
seem wrong or meaningless, ask yourself (your inner knowing)
what the possible meaning and/or purpose might be.
1. Ask yourself what can be learned from it.
2. Ask yourself how this can assist you or others to overcome
limitation, weakness or fear.
3. Ask yourself what soul qualities are being evoked or
needed in the situation. |
