Challenges and Relationships

Most of the challenges we experience come to us in relationships with others. When we do not appreciate and value the circumstances and the people involved when we are challenged, we will tend to see them as the cause of our challenges. This assignment of cause then becomes the basis for blame, resentment and rejection.

The fact that we are challenged by relationships so much ought to give us a clue that this must be part of the grand design of life trying to teach us something about relationships.

Since soul is always a relationship, no development or integration of soul consciousness takes place outside of relationships. Therefore, not only is every challenge through relationships about soul, but everything about soul involves some relationship.

Soul is essentially about love, and therefore relationship is always about love. Since love is about connection, and ego is about separation, every relationship and everything that happens in relationship is about challenging the ego to make connection by opening to the other, to soul, to life in all its details and mystery.

Exercises:

When challenged in relationships frequently ask:

1. Am I willing to let go of what I want and to give love in this situation?

2. What form of love am I being asked to express?

3. What do I need to understand in this situation in order to love appropriately?

4. What do I need to value and appreciate in this situation in order to love authentically?
