Perfection
The
pursuit of perfection is a never ending downward spiral of negative self
judgment.
While it
is laudable to have aspirations and even goals to pursue, perfection is
not one of them. The reason is simple. Perfection, as we understand it,
does not exist. Perfection is a concept that we have about something. It
always involves a denial of some aspects of the reality to which it is
attributed.
If you
want to be perfect you are doing three things:
1. You
are judging yourself as not good enough.
2. You
are denying some aspects of your own being which are present and real.
3. You
are comparing yourself to others and/or to some abstract concept, and
seeing yourself as inferior.
Self
knowledge is the basis of happiness. When you deny how you are you are
blocking yourself from knowing more fully who you are. This denial leads
to unhappiness.
We need
to revise our concept of perfection to mean that which is. Everything is
the way it is because it cannot be otherwise given the laws that
produced it and the consciousness that created it. We can focus on
becoming more conscious and that will then change what is in our
experiences. But to try to change how we are first only immerses us in a
sea of illusion and frustration.
Whenever
we see ourselves as ‘less than...’ or as not good enough, we are judging
ourselves in a negative way, not accepting how or who we are, and using
an abstract concept of perfection to reject what is.
We need
to accept and appreciate that our so-called imperfections are our
perfection. We must meditate on this reality until we believe it right
down into the depths of our subconscious. This can only be done through
our soul’s compassion for its bodies and personality.
To change
we need not focus on what we perceive as missing, for that will only
intensify our experience of what we see as missing. We need, instead, to
focus on the positive potentials that already exist within us. Focusing
on them will activate them.
The
deeper meaning of perfection is the stance of allowing the creative life
energy to flow through you. As you increasingly become soul conscious,
this is exactly what you do.

Exercises:
1. What creative potentials exist within you that you could
focus on and express as a contribution to the happiness and
well-being of others?
2. Focus on things about yourself that you do not like and
begin to accept them as how you are. If they can be changed, and
you feel they should be, then develop a strategy for making that
change.
3. Focus frequently on the beauty that you are in your soul,
and express gratitude for who you are. |
Go beyond just understanding and attain more perspectives, experiences
and integration to enable you to heal the past and create the future.
