Dear Friends,
During these past 25 years of teaching in Scandinavia we crossed North America
and the Atlantic 106 times. In Europe alone we gave approximately 250 lectures,
300 workshops and 20 retreats. And we spent about one and a half years
recovering from jet lag! So after 25 years and nearly one million kilometres of
travel, we have decided to make this our last teaching trip to Scandinavia. We
hope to meet many of you at our final session for learning, sharing and
celebrating together.
At the same time we are planning an international retreat in Panama for the
first week of February 2009, and hope that you will attend that as well along
with people from Canada and other countries. We will soon send you details about
it in a separate e-mail.
The topic we have chosen for this final session in Scandinavia – The Art of
Happiness – is one that should appeal to everyone since we all seek happiness,
whether or not we have a spiritual orientation in life. We ordinarily do these
workshops over three days. For this session we will have 2 days of workshop,
followed on the Sunday with a day of sharing, celebration and farewells. Space
is limited for the Lund workshop, so if you plan to attend you must register
early.

“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end
of human existence.” – Aristotle
Everything we do is motivated by the desire to be happy. But not everything we
do makes us happy. This workshop will help us understand happiness so that we
pursue that which truly makes us happy, not just the illusion of happiness.
And as you become happier you also become more creative, more fun to be with,
more fulfilled, more able to uplift others, and become more attractive to
others.
Happiness results from what we make of an experience. Fortunately we can make
anything out of anything. And this session will give you the tools to make
happiness out of any experience.
Through discussions, meditations, exercises and strategies we will reflect on
many aspects of our lives that give us opportunities to create happiness, and
identify the ways of thinking that reduce happiness.

The Energies of 2008

This is a time for beginning things, or at the very least making
plans for that which can unfold in the immediate years ahead. It is an
initiation period, which means both new beginnings and a time to set in motion
those energies which will create a greater tension in your life. This tension
will be created by having sufficient experience that opens the personality
toward the soul’s influence.
This is a time for courage and assertion, to put your doubts aside and place one
foot before the other to move ahead, even if it is not certain where you are
going to end up. In order to initiate the movement necessary now, you have to
know what you want and make some decisions to manifest whatever that is. What it
comes down to is expressing some skills, talents and potentials within yourself
that are seeking to be externalized in some way. At the beginning of every
cycle, which this is, there are always some unexpressed potentials surfacing for
expression. There is some yearning within yourself that needs to be recognized
and acted on in one way or another. This is not a time for repression. Ask
yourself: what do I really want?
Consider many ideas. Brainstorm the possibilities for expression. Then check
within yourself for verification of those which can be acted upon toward
fruitful ends. This is a time for pioneering and exploring.
Your own individuality and distinctiveness will be highlighted, as it is up to
you to take the lead and make something happen. While it is not a time to depend
on others, nor even to establish partnerships, co-operation will likely be
necessary in order to get your own plans moving. Know yourself and what you want
before seeking the involvement of others. When involving others, be sure that
their involvement is also in their best interests. Great care needs to be taken
not to be self centred, for action must always consider the good of all.
Stubbornness and egotism are likely to surface if motivation is not loving.
If you do initiate a new relationship, moderate your tendencies toward
independence, and then deepen and broaden the union in 2009 which favours
relationships.
There is a great deal of power and life energy present. It must be used wisely
and constructively. There may, however, be a necessity to destroy that which
stands in the way. This also must be done wisely and with heart, as well as with
discrimination.
Use your determination as you embark on a new journey in some areas of your
life. Be strong and thoughtful as you find new ways and means to accomplish your
life purpose. This is an outer year in which your growth will be enhanced by
expressing your Soul’s energies through outward activities.
This is a yang year with male energy, emphasizing decisiveness and initiative.
Try to make your decisions for the new be expressions of both personality
purpose and soul purpose. Purpose is always found as the motivating power at the
beginning of any thing and of any cycle.
In order to express yourself you need to be aware of conditions around you. Take
stock of your outer life, your material life and your life situation. What are
the conditions around you that will help you? What are the conditions or
situations that you want to change?
This is not an easy year because everything depends on you. You have to be
organized and disciplined in order to get results.
Inertia and indecision are your enemies, not other people. Don’t look outside of
yourself for the blockages; look within. Sometimes inertia and indecision are
ways of avoiding responsibility or hiding a fear of the future. Be willing to
take responsibility and to face the future, knowing that you can make it
whatever you choose to make it – within the limits of your life purpose.
The third aspect of life, intelligent activity, must be developed. Some
understanding must be gained in order that the plans or activity initiated will
be both useful and lawful. They must be appropriate.
The sub-indicators for this year indicate that your leadership must be exercised
with tact and diplomacy. There are many opportunities present so be open to the
diverse possibilities. You will also have some surprises, some unpredictable and
unforeseen things happening. You need to rely upon your sensitivity and your
intuition now.
The next 8 years depend a great deal upon what you do this year. Don’t expect
immediate results from what you initiate now. Time is needed for unfoldment. You
might see some indication in October of this year for what lies ahead regarding
your initiatives.
